Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited volunteers at Great Wyrley Jobs Fair held at Great Wyrley Community Centre.
The jobs fair was organised by Councillor Bob Cope and Tony Mayer of South Staffs Work Clubs and was attended by 200 people.
Amongst the 30 leading businesses who attended, representatives from Amazon, JLR, Sainsbury’s, APC Logistics and the Army Reserve were on hand to chat to job seekers about their individual experiences in their employment.
In addition to the Jobs Fair, there is a network of successful Work Clubs across the region. Work Clubs offer support to job seekers, helping them to write their CVs and providing them with interview coaching. During these sessions, attendees can take part in a relaxed discussion over coffee, carry out a job search using the internet or newspapers, or participate in more formal training sessions.
A series of local companies make regular visits to the Work Clubs, including Static Systems Group Plc and McCain Foods Ltd.
After the event Gavin said: “I greatly enjoyed my visit to the Jobs Fair and the opportunity to meet the dedicated volunteers and careers coaches taking part in this event. I cannot praise enough all the work that they are putting in to help people seeking work in the local area. We need to ensure that job seekers are given the appropriate support to showcase their talents and make the most of the opportunities that present themselves.
“It is really great to see the success that these Work Clubs are having and the number of people that they are helping to get into jobs.”
