Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed the biggest vaccination programme in British history as the vaccine rollout continues.
Already in South Staffordshire, 32.9 percent of the population have received the vaccine and with the programme averaging more than 2.5 million doses per week, there is hope to offer every adult the vaccine by the end of July.
Everyone in the top four priority groups have been offered a vaccine, as invites are now going out to those in the priority groups five to nine. The latest figures now show that two thirds of those aged 65 to 69 have now been vaccinated.
Gavin welcomes the roadmap to take the cautious and irreversible steps out of lockdown, which will be guided by data not dates.
Commenting on the news, Gavin said: “The NHS vaccination programme, the biggest in our country’s history, has been a fantastic success story and has showcased the very best collaboration across the United Kingdom. I have had the pleasure of visiting the vaccination centre in Great Wyrley and have seen first hand the amazing work that goes into this programme.
“It’s great to see that so many people in South Staffordshire have received the vaccine as we lead in the fight against coronavirus. We are defeating this virus every single day and it gives us great hope that we will get back to normality.”
