Gavin Williamson MP was delighted to hear that the Payments Council have decided that cheques will continue indefintely and plans to close cheque clearing in 2018 have been cancelled.
The Payments Council announced today that cheques will continue for as long as customers need them and the target for possible closure has been cancelled. The board will continue to focus on security, innovation and efficiency in all types of payments to ensure that customers have the best options availiable for the 21st Century.

'I am delighted to hear the fantastic news that the cheque has been saved. I have had many constituents raise their concerns about this issue and I am incredibly pleased that following pressure from the Government, MP's and everyone who made their voices heard on this that the cheque is here to stay. I think that we should say particular thanks to Mark Hoban MP who is the Minister responsible for putting an immense amount of pressure on the payments council to reverse the decision that they made previously and I thoroughly welcome this good news.'
Now that the cheque is here to stay Gavin Williamson MP hopes that many of his constituents can enjoy putting their minds to rest on this one.
