Gavin questions NATO solidarity on the Ukraine in Parliament

Gavin today questioned the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs about whether NATO would act with solidarity following the recent events in Ukraine. Gavin asked The Rt. Hon William Hague MP what reassurance the UK would be giving to its NATO partners that it would be standing ‘shoulder to shoulder’ with them in defence of their independence.

Save our green belt petition

The Department for Communities and Local Government (DCLG) has confirmed that green belt land should be accorded the ‘highest protection’, in response to a petition submitted by Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire. The Government Department went on to state that most development on green belt land is inappropriate and that it should be approved only in ‘very special circumstances.’

Gavin condemns 'shocking inequality' in arts funding for South Staffordshire

Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has condemned the ‘shocking inequality’ in arts funding for his constituency. In 2012/13, South Staffordshire received just £10,000 in total grants from the Arts Council, compared to the £1.3 million received by Wolverhampton North East and the £8.5 million received by Birmingham, Ladywood.

Home Office Minister gives advice on scrap metal for cash loophole

The Minister of State for the Home Office, Norman Baker MP, has confirmed that scrap metal dealers are not permitted to cash cheques whilst making an original payment to a supplier. Gavin wrote to the Minister following reports that many dealers are seeking to get around the new scrap metal for cash ban by offering to cash cheques on the premises.
