Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed a further fall in unemployment in his constituency, over June 2014.
New figures, released today by the Office of National Statistics, show the number of claimants went down by 62 (a monthly change of over six percent) to 960, or 2.1 percent of all economically active 16-64 year old residents.
This was a drop of 475 claimants (an annual change of 33 percent) on June 2013 and a fall of 729 claimants (a change of over 40 percent) since the general election, in May 2010.
Furthermore, unemployment in South Staffordshire for the month was nearly half that of the West Midlands average of 4.1 percent.
On the figures, Gavin said: “It’s great news there are now 475 fewer people on JSA in South Staffordshire than there were last year. That’s 475 people no longer needing benefits to get by, with a more secure, brighter future ahead of them.
“Unemployment in South Staffordshire remains well below the regional - and national - average. This is largely down to the success of our many local businesses, which have flourished over the past couple of years. I will do everything I can to ensure that South Staffordshire continues to win the business investment that it deserves and to see that our residents have access to the appropriate training to fill these jobs.”
