Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed the announcement that Severn Trent Water will be building new sewers at Slade Heath.
The news comes four years after Gavin first demanded action to upgrade the existing infrastructure, following his election to Parliament in 2010.
Many properties in Slade Heath are currently connected to old, deteriorating septic tanks, which cause drainage and pollution issues, as well as being costly to maintain.
The £2.5 million project will see 4km of new sewers built, meaning many residents can be disconnected from the old tanks and be connected to the new sewer.
On the project, Gavin said: “I am delighted that Severn Trent Water has agreed to upgrade the sewer system in Slade Heath.
“Inadequate sewage is not only costly and damaging to the local environment, it can also be extremely hazardous to people’s health. I am relieved this long overdue action is finally being taken.”
Work is set to start at the end of July 2014 and is due to be completed by spring 2015.
