Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is urging local postmasters to apply to the Community Branch Fund.
The new £20 million fund, which is an extension of the Government’s Network Transformation programme, provides investment to Community Branches around the country.
Community Branches are typically those where the Post Office is the last retailer in the community. These branches are often found in rural or deprived communities, where they provide vital access to the wide range of Post Office services that include mails, access to cash and pension, and benefit payments.
Post offices in the areas of Kinver, Swindon, Bobbington, Enville and Shareshill are covered by the scheme.
Gavin said: “Our local post offices provide a vital service to our villages. Many local businesses and residents rely heavily on them to send correspondence or make important financial transactions. It is therefore incredibly important that these post offices have access to the support that they need to thrive.
“I would urge local postmasters of Community Branches to apply for funding now and make the most of this excellent new scheme.”
Since 2010, this Government has taken action to secure the long-term sustainable future of the Post Office network.
It is providing nearly £2 billion to maintain, modernise and protect a network of at least 11,500 branches, bringing to an end the closure programme of the previous decade.
Over 2,600 branches have already been modernised under the Network Transformation programme.
