Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has lent his voice to the protests surrounding an application to set up a campsite on Long Lane, Newtown.
The local council threw out the original planning application, submitted by Mr. Bill Watton, for three caravans to be placed at the back of his residence.
However, the applicant is now seeking to get around this refusal by bidding to have the area declared an official campsite by the Camping and Caravanning Club.
The proposal has been met with outrage by local residents. If approved, it would allow up to five caravans or motorhomes, along with ten tents, to be pitched at the site.
Gavin has called on the Camping and Caravanning Club to reject the bid.
Gavin said: “This is a completely outrageous attempt to get around our planning laws and should be rejected out of hand.
“It is completely bonkers that this bid is even being considered by the club. I urge local residents to submit their comments to the Camping and Caravanning Club to ensure that their voices are heard and their opinions are taken into account.”
Residents have until the 24th July to comment on the application, prior to the Camping and Caravanning Club making its decision.
Anyone wishing to submit a comment should write to: The Exempting Camping Department, The Camping and Caravanning Club, Greenfields House, Westwood Way, Coventry, CV4 8JH. Alternatively, they can e-mail their comments to: exemptions@campingandcaravanningclub.co.uk.
