Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has branded a proposal to relocate the local paramedic service to Wolverhampton as ‘utterly barmy.’
The move to Fallings Park, Wolverhampton, could result in response times to many rural locations lengthening considerably.
Gavin has written to the chief executive to request a review of this decision and to register his disgust at the total lack of consultation that preceded this decision to sacrifice rural services for the benefit of urban areas.
Regarding the issue, Gavin said: “I am shocked at the total lack of regard of the chief executive of the Ambulance Service and the fact that there has been no consultation on this proposal.
“The proposal he has put forwarded is utterly barmy, as what he is doing is putting all the ambulance resources in the urban area of Wolverhampton and ignoring the rural areas of Staffordshire and Shropshire. This is going to extend the amount of time it takes to respond to calls from Codsall, Bilbrook Perton, Pattingham and Coven, as well as many rural villages in Shropshire.
“I will be calling on the chief executive for an immediate review of this decision.”
