Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is urging residents of Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay to return their petition forms against the proposals for a development off Landywood Lane before he presents the petition in Parliament next week.
The petition is against the proposals which seek to build 136 houses on the land off Landywood Lane. Similar proposals were rejected in 2013 on the same plot of land. The results will be sent to the South Staffordshire District Council and also presented in the House of Commons.
The petition currently has up to 4,600 signatures and will be presented to the House of Commons next week.
Residents from across Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley joined Gavin to organise and distribute petitions which will be hand delivered to 8,000 homes across the area. Gavin’s petition will be presented to the House of Commons and South Staffordshire District Council.
The proposals, which were rejected in 2013, would see 136 houses built on the area of green belt land situated off Landywood Lane.
Commenting on the petition Gavin said: “An overwhelming number of people do not want this development. It will ruin the character of the villages of Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay. I hope that both the Council and the planning inspectorate, if the proposals reach that stage, will listen to voice of local people.
“I am delighted that almost 4,600 people have already returned their petitions but I would encourage all residents, who have not done so already, to fill in the petition and return it via the freepost envelope before next Monday. It is abundantly clear from the results so far that residents do not want this development. It’s so important that we have as many signatures as possible to show the Council that this development is not wanted by those who live in Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay.”
