Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed Staffordshire Police’s intention to crack down on drivers who get behind the wheel without insurance.
In a recent statement, Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis said that it would be getting tough with those who break the rules.
He revealed that automatic number plate recognition cameras will be used to find uninsured drivers who, once identified, may be fined, have their cars seized or be given six points on their license.
Perpetrators could be taken to court or even disqualified from driving, with their cars at risk of being crushed or auctioned off unless they get their vehicle insured.
Gavin said: “I am extremely glad that the police are intending to crackdown on these irresponsible drivers. Their thoughtless actions can have massive repercussions on other, law abiding citizens, and such behaviour should be neither be excused or tolerated.”
