Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has hailed the NHS on its 65th Birthday.
On 5 July 2013, the NHS will celebrate 65 years of providing healthcare to the British people.
Conservatives have demonstrated their continuing commitment to the NHS by increasing spending on it every year since 2010. In the local area, this means families will see a rise in the budget available for health services from 214,687 in 2012-13 to 219,625 in 2013-14.
Speaking on the occasion, Gavin said: “Even with our £12.7 billion increase in health spending, without the hard work of local NHS staff, we would not have been able to deliver faster treatments, halve hospital infection rates and virtually eliminate mixed sex wards.
“Our NHS is a national treasure. I’m proud this Government is investing more in it. We should especially thank all the dedicated people who work locally in our NHS.”
The budget for commissioning health in England has risen by 2.6 per cent, this year. This represents 2.6 percent growth compared to equivalent 2012/13 baselines – a real term increase of 0.6 percent at a time of limited resources.
Overall, under the stewardship of the current Government, NHS spending is rising. By 2015, it will be £12.7 billion higher than in 2010.
Furthermore, since the General Election, there are now 1,362 more midwives, 5,703 more doctors and 6,894 fewer managers working in the NHS. As a result of our NHS reforms the NHS will save £4.5 billion on bureaucracy over the course of this Parliament, all of which will be reinvested into frontline services.
