Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed a decision by The Veolia Environment Trust to fund upgrades to the skate park next to the Great Wyrley Community Centre.
The Veolia Environment Trust has awarded the Great Wyrley Parish Council a grant of £56,000, through the Landfill Communities Fund, towards replacing the existing metal and wooden skate equipment with safer, more durable and exciting pieces.
This grant is one of 42, totalling over £1.3m, awarded by the company’s Board at its quarterly meeting on 21 October 2013.
It means that, in the last five years, Veolia has awarded a total of £1,545,182 to community and environmental projects in the West Midlands.
Now that the grant has been awarded, the company’s project manager will work with the parish council to confirm the scheme’s detail and draft the required documents so that work can start as soon as possible.
Gavin said: “I was delighted to hear that the Veolia Environment Trust has awarded this funding to the skate park. It is wonderful to see big business contribute towards our communities through the improvement of such important local facilities. I am sure that the youth of Great Wyrley will be extremely grateful for this donation.”
A Great Wyrley Parish Council spokesperson said: “This is great news for our project. The grant is very welcome and we look forward to working with the Trust team to ensure our plans become real and benefit the community of Great Wyrley.”
The Veolia Environmental Trust executive director Paul Taylor added: “This grant is a great example of how the Trust and the Landfill Communities Fund makes a real difference to all types of communities across the UK. Every project is important to us and we look forward to seeing work start and the new skate park take shape.”
