Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, called on Centro to resolve an issue at a bus stop in Wolverhampton which was causing unnecessary confusion and inconvenience to passengers travelling from villages in South Staffordshire to and from the city centre.
Centro had invested in new bus shelters opposite the Art Gallery in Wolverhampton, which had served passengers for the 877 and 878 for the past five years.
Difficulties arose after the bus company installed these new additional shelters in order to minimise overcrowding and provide a more equal distribution of departures from each shelter. Due to the additional shelters drivers had difficulty stopping at their designated stops which resulted in a number of passengers missing the bus, forcing them to find alternate transport home at a greater cost.
Following Gavin’s intervention after a number of concerned passengers had contacted him, the bus company has now relocated the bus stop serving the Select Bus Service 877 and 878 to Shelter BC1 so that there is adequate room for both passengers and vehicle.
Commenting on this Gavin said: “I’m so grateful that Centro and their team acted so quickly to resolve this issue with the bus shelter. Some of the passengers that use the service are elderly or have young children which makes chasing a bus to the next stop an unlikely option. Many residents from South Staffordshire rely on this service to get to Wolverhampton and were faced with unnecessary confusion pocket so I am glad that this issue is now resolved.”
