Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed the news that following a meeting of the Council on Tuesday evening, proposals for the DX Freight Super Hub in Essington would be rejected.
The proposals for the site on Hobnock road were thrown out after a meeting by the Planning Committee of South Staffordshire Council. Councillors vote 21 against the plans, with 12 in favour.
Gavin has worked with Essington residents hosting a campaign evening where 80 volunteers organised referendum and survey forms which distributed to 2000 households across Essington. 99% of residents who answered the survey were against the proposals for the Hobnock Road site.
After hearing the plans were rejected Gavin said: āI am delighted that the Councillors voted to reject these proposals which would have undoubtedly had a huge impact on the quality of life of Essington residents. By granting permission to the site, HGVs and other vehicle would have caused massive traffic problems, not only affecting Essington but many of the surrounding villages.
āIād like to extend a huge thank you to all those residents in and around Essington who put so much effort and worked so hard on this campaign and got this brilliant result.ā
