Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed a further fall in unemployment in his constituency, over July 2014.
New figures, released today by the Office of National Statistics, show the number of claimants went down by 27 (a monthly change of almost three percent) to 933, or two percent of all economically active 16-64 year old residents.
This was a drop of 484 claimants (an annual change of 34 percent) on July 2013 and a fall of 756 claimants (a change of 45 percent) since the general election, in May 2010.
Furthermore, unemployment in South Staffordshire for the month was half that of the West Midlands average of four percent.
On the figures, Gavin said: “It is excellent news that since 2010 there are 756 fewer people relying on Jobseeker’s Allowance in South Staffordshire. This is a massive fall of almost 50 percent over the past four years.
“However, we cannot afford to get complacent. We need to ensure that local businesses continue to receive the support that they need to create jobs in the local area. I will continue to fight for investment, so that we can be certain that every South Staffordshire resident has access to the opportunities and training that they require to obtain employment.”
