Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed finalised plans to upgrade a Post Office branch in Brewood.
The Post Office, located in Market Place, Brewood, is to be modernised into one of the Post Office’s new main style branches at the end of this month.
The Government committed £1.34 billion in 2010 to maintain and modernise the Post Office network and in November 2013 announced a further £640 million investment until 2018.
The newly refurbished branch would have longer opening hours making it more convenient for businesses and residents in Brewood, opening from 8.00 every morning until 6.00 in the evening from Monday to Saturday.
The refurbishing of the branch in Brewood follows upgrades in branches in Wombourne, Great Wyrley and Essington.
In order for refurbishments to take place the branch will close at the normal time of 5.30pm on Thursday 25th February and reopen at a slightly later time of 1pm on Friday 26th February.
Commenting on the upgrade Gavin said: “I am so pleased that the Post Office has confirmed their proposals to upgrade the Market Place branch in Brewood. The Post Office is a vital part of communities in South Staffordshire and has long provided a platform for essential and every day government services.
“This is fantastic news for residents in Brewood. I am delighted that the refurbishments will take place over one morning, limiting the disruption for residents that use the Post Office regularly. This is one in a number of branches that have undergone refurbishment as part of the modernisation programme, benefitting residents right across South Staffordshire.”
