Gavin Williamson, Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for South Staffordshire, visited Stourbridge Rugby Club over the weekend to present medals to the players at Stourton Park for the Mini Rugby Festival.
Gavin was joined by the Conservative Parliamentary Candidate for Stourbridge, Margot James, at the annual event, which brings together young rugby players from clubs based in the Midlands and beyond for a day of fun and sport at the club’s home ground, Stourton Park.
The Festival is organised and run by volunteers from the under 10 age group in SRFC’s junior section, its success relies upon the support of sponsors for funds to cover costs including a commemorative medal for every child who takes part. Any surplus is ploughed back into the club to cover the running costs of the young team which includes equipment, kit and entrance fees for competitions and tournaments.
Gavin commented: “I had a fantastic time at the Rugby Festival. It was brilliant to see so many enthusiastic youngsters involved. I would like to thank those that organised the event. The work that the organisers and the volunteers is so important to support young people to enjoy the game of rugby in a safe and happy environment and I look forward to hearing more about their success in the future.”
