Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Perton Village Nursery School on Friday for their relaunch and a Macmillan Coffee Morning.
The nursery school was first started by Perton Parish Council 15 years ago and was taken over by local volunteers and set up as a separate charity 10 years ago. To celebrate their 10 year anniversary, the nursery held a party and Macmillan Coffee Morning for the parents of the 2-5 year olds that attend the nursery school.
The nursery has seen a rise in places this year due to the Government’s free childcare scheme. All 3 to 4-year-olds in England can get 570 hours of free early education or childcare per year. This is usually taken as 15 hours each week for 38 weeks of the year, with some 2-year-olds are also eligible. The nursery also benefits from funding for disadvantaged children from Perton and surrounding areas.
At the re-launch Gavin said: “It was a privilege to be invited to the relaunch of Perton Village Nursery School and see the wonderful work that has been done. It was fantastic to hear about the positive effects of the Government’s childcare scheme has had on nursery places here enabling parent’s to claim 15 hours of free childcare, which the Government has pledged to double in the coming years.
“I was also delighted that the nursery was also supporting the Macmillan Coffee Morning. It was great to see children getting involved in such an important fundraising event at such a young age.”
