Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, unveiled a new village sign in Coven Heath, over weekend.
The smallest village in Brewood and Coven Parish received support and funding from Staffordshire County Council, South Staffordshire Council and Coven Heath Community Association to commission the unique carved wooden sign to mark the entrance to the village.
Coven Heath Community Association raised £1393 and South Staffordshire Councillors Diane Holmes, Mike Hampson and Wendy Sutton provided a further £300 from their Small Grants District Members Budget.
Stafford County Councillor Mark Sutton also donated £1150 from the Staffordshire Local Community Fund.
The Staffordshire Local Community Fund is an initiative which supports communities directly through local county councillors. Each councillor has £10,000 a year to allocate to groups and organisations in their division to provide and improve locally important services and promote community pride.
Gavin said: “I was greatly honoured to be asked to unveil the new sign, over the weekend. Coven Heath may be small, but it has an extremely strong identity that this new sign will help preserve over the years ahead.”
Peter Tomkins, Chairman of Coven Heath Community Association said: “The Community Association is very grateful for the financial support of Staffordshire County Council and South Staffordshire District Council.”
Parish Councillor, Linda Tomkins added: “Coven Heath does not have any community facilities but despite this the residents have regular meetings and newsletters to keep in touch. The residents enthusiastically supported their village sign project’.
The official unveiling of the sign took place on site in Ball Lane Coven Heath on 22 March 2014, at 10am.
