Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is set to take part in Question Time at Codsall High School, on the 18th October.
The event, which celebrates Local Democracy Week, is being organised by the Pattingham Youth Forum and supported by the Staffordshire Council of Voluntary Youth Services (SCVYS).
Gavin will be a panellist at the Question Time, alongside South Staffordshire Police PCSO Ashley Tooth, Codsall High School headteacher Marjorie Tunnicliffe and former RE teacher and Parish Councillor Penny Allen.
A delegation of nine youth workers from Japan will also be present on the day. The group is currently being hosted in the area by the SCVYS.
Likely topics for discussion at the forum include comparing youth practices between the UK and Japan, engaging young people in democracy and tuition fees.
On the event, Gavin said: “This is the first time that I will be participating in Question Time, so I must admit to being a little bit nervous. I hope the students from Codsall High take it easy on me.
“It is important that young people have an opportunity to engage in the democratic process and events such as this are a wonderful way for students to understand the nature of politics and debate.”
SCVYS development worker Lisa Corbett said: “The Pattingham Youth Forum has done a splendid job organising this event and I have no doubt it will prove an incredible success. I would also like to thank Mr. Williamson and all our other guests for bravely agreeing to become Question Time panellists. I know the students have some difficult questions in store.”
