Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended one of the ‘World’s Biggest Coffee Mornings’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support on Saturday 26th September, at The Church at Perton hosted by Perton 1st Guides.
The Guides prepared tea, coffee and a variety of homemade cakes to raise money for the charity which is celebrating its 25th year as a major fundraising event.
The coffee morning was one of many that had been held across the country to raise money for people living with cancer that are supported by Macmillan. This year’s event is looking to surpass the £25 million national total from last year.
The event is not only Macmillan’s flagship fundraiser but it is the original and most successful charity fundraising event of its sort. The coffee mornings and donations to Macmillan have now raised a total of £139 million since their beginning in 1991.
Gavin said: “I had a wonderful time at the Macmillan Coffee Morning with 1st Perton Guides this weekend. It was great to see them doing something to raise money for such a good cause.
“Macmillan is such a fantastic charity which provides invaluable support to those going through extremely difficult times in their lives and I was proud to see South Staffordshire residents playing their part in supporting them.
“I enjoyed meeting and talking to local residents from across Perton and I would like to thank the church for the use of their facilities and the Guides for hosting a wonderful coffee morning.”
