Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, presented his Landywood petition against planning proposals to Parliament on Tuesday evening.
Although no formal application has been submitted, Gavin presented the petition with a total of 4,962 signatures to the House of Commons this week.
The petition is against the proposals which seek to build 136 houses on the land off Landywood Lane. Similar proposals were rejected in 2013 on the same plot of land.
Residents from across Cheslyn Hay and Great Wyrley joined the campaign, attending a special event at the end of last year to organise and distribute petitions which were hand delivered to 8,000 homes across the area.
After submitting the petition Gavin said: “Although we have not seen a formal planning application submitted at this stage, I was determined that the voices of 4,962 residents from Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay were heard, united against these proposals to build on our green belt land.
“Without the help, support and effort from many these volunteers from across Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay in this campaign, we would not have been able to get out the 8,000 petitions to households across the area and I would like to extend my thanks to each volunteer for their efforts. I am determined to do everything I can to see our green belt land protected for our future generations to enjoy.”
