Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, presented £18,000 worth of grants to charities in and around Kinver last week at a presentation evening at St Peter’s Church Hall.
The money, which was raised at the annual Kinver Country Fayre earlier this year, was handed out to a number of local causes which help a wide range of different groups in society. There were 40 grants distributed – a new record - which totals to 50% more than were given out last year.
Some of the causes that will benefit from the money include the community transport schemes for the elderly, sport facilities for young people and the South Staffordshire First Responders, who aim to install a defibrillator on Kinver High Street.
Commenting on the evening Gavin said: “It was such an honour to be able to hand out the cheques to all these wonderful causes that benefit Kinver. I would like to thank and congratulate all those who organised Kinver Country Fayre who raised such a fantastic total which will go such a long way to benefit so many of Kinver’s brilliant organisations.
“So many of these groups and projects play such an important part in people’s lives whether it be the extremely important village transport scheme for the elderly or buying craft materials for the 1st Kinver brownies or buying the defibrillator for Kinver High Street which could actually save lives. I am looking forward to hearing more on how the funds will be spent and seeing for myself the benefits for residents in and around Kinver.”
