Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended the opening of the Bilbrook Multi Use Games Area (MUGA) on Saturday 1st November.
Gavin was welcomed by Chairman of Friends of Bilbrook, Keri Lloyd, and Annette Lloyd after which he cut the ribbon, officially declaring the park open for use. Gavin took the opportunity to try out the sporting facilities for himself, testing the new basketball hoops.
The park opening was followed by refreshments at Bilbrook Village Hall and free sporting activities for all ages until midday, in association with Zoom Sports Coaching Ltd. The company offers for all ages and abilities during the week and also at weekends. It offers sessions for young people, over 50’s and families and also the local Busy Minds group.
The group recently secured £46,057 of funding from the Biffa Award, South Staffordshire Council's Community Budget and South Staffordshire Housing Association which was used to fund the renovation of the MUGA.
Gavin recently took part in a Litter Pick with the Friends of Bilbrook which saw the group, together with Bilbrook Parish Council, visit every street in Bilbrook and collect 21 bags of litter. The group is a non-profit community group, whose main aim is to improve the environment in around Bilbrook.
Gavin said: “I’m so honoured to have been asked to open the Multi Use Games Area. The MUGA is such a great thing for the local community, especially for young people. I admire all the work that the Friends of Bilbrook Group do in our local area. I had a fantastic time at the opening, even though my basketball skills leave a lot to be desired, but I now have somewhere to practice.”
