Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, opened the 7th annual Brewood Cycle Challenge on Saturday 18th June.
The Brewood Cycle Challenge, which takes place annually on a Saturday in June, is a British Cycling Registered Sportive which raises funds for the 2nd Brewood Scout Group.
This year’s challenge had a record-breaking 900 online entrants and offered two new, fully-signposted routes of 120km and 60km. Those who succeeded in completing the routes were also treated to newly designed finishers’ medals, hot food and live entertainment.
The event started at St Dominic’s High School, with participants cycling through a variety of hamlets, villages and vistas before finally returning to Brewood.
Commenting on the event, Gavin said: “It was such a pleasure to be able to open the cycle challenge again and to see the event have its highest turnout yet. We were extremely lucky with the weather and as always, everyone seemed to enjoy themselves enormously. I hope that the event succeeds in raising a lot of money for the Brewood Scouts, which is a fantastic organisation and an extremely worthwhile cause.”
