Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is set to meet with representatives from the County Council and Highways Agency, this Friday, to discuss what action can be taken to resolve the overgrown grass covering Coven Heath’s central reservation.
Gavin was contacted by a series of village residents, last year, after they were informed that the grass would - in the future - only be cut when it became dangerously high and obscured drivers’ vision.
The Coven Heath residents said that they felt the grass was an ‘eyesore’, as well as a ‘danger to motorists’ and claimed that it lowered the tone of the surrounding neighbourhood.
Furthermore, they stated that, following a cut, the grass was simply left to rot.
On the upcoming site meeting, Gavin said: “I have already raised these concerns with the Highways Agency and County Council. I really hope that we will be able to resolve this and that the Highways Agency will agree to take action on this matter.
“I think it is inexcusable that the grass is simply being left in this state. I have already been to look at the state of the verges – both before and after the grass has been cut – and the entire reservation looks absolutely horrendous. We have a duty to maintain these spaces and, quite frankly, not enough is being done.”
