Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited the Wombourne and Codsall Judo Club, on Monday 14th April.
In the course of his visit, Gavin met with the club coaches and watched some Judo demonstrations.
He also took part, himself, in a session, during which he was thrown a number of times.
The Wombourne and Codsall Judo Club holds classes for children and adults, which it runs from the local leisure centres.
South Staffordshire Council and the Judo Club are encouraging children to come and have a taster session, this Easter, by issuing all local primary school children with free vouchers to attend.
Gavin said: “I greatly enjoyed meeting the coaches and students of the Wombourne and Codsall Judo Club. I was incredibly impressed by the skill displayed by all the students during the session.
“It is fantastic that children in South Staffordshire are being given the opportunity to participate in this sport at no cost. There is no bigger incentive than trying something new for free, and I really hope that local children are encouraged to take advantage of the free vouchers and come along to the leisure centres to give this great Olympic sport a try.”
Judo is great exercise for all ages, improving participants’ strength, stamina and flexibility, and providing a complete body workout.
The Wombourne and Codsall Judo Club has had plenty to celebrate recently, with junior coach, Carl Holland, winning the British Open Masters Championship last year.
