Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited Brewood Hardware Store on Market Place, Brewood, last week to help out behind the counter.
Gavin visited the store during the election and promised to help out if he was returned as the Member of Parliament.
Owners Chris and Karen, have recently renovated the entire store, including restoring the shop sign to its former glory. The store also has an adjoining tea room which forms part of business. Customers can expect to find a variety of DIY essentials as well as a large range of haberdashery items.
After exhausting his DIY knowledge in the hardware store, Gavin went next door to help serve tea and cakes to customers. The tea room serves a range of hot and cold drinks and homemade cakes.
Commenting on his stint behind the counter Gavin said: “I was so glad to be able to fulfil my promise to Chris and Karen and come back to serve behind the counter. Although my knowledge of hardware and DIY is pretty ropey I don’t think I did the business much damage. I was reasonably better at serving tea and washing up. It’s so important that we shop local. Brewood has a wonderful town centre and to keep it this way we must support our local businesses. I’d like to thank Chris and Karen for a fantastic afternoon and I hope I can return there in the future.”
