Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has condemned a decision to discontinue the staffing at a crossing outside of Codsall Middle School.
The existing warden will be relocated to a vacant crossing site within the village, effective from June 2nd.
From this point the status of the serviced school crossing will be under review, which could lead to it being permanently dis-established as a patrolled crossing.
Gavin has written to the Chief Executive of Staffordshire County Council, urging him to reconsider this decision and thereby ensure the safety of the children using this service.
There are 480 children attending Codsall Middle School, who daily use the pelican crossing on Wolverhampton Road.
Pupils from Codsall High School, St. Nicholas First School and St. Christopher’s Primary School also regularly cross at the site.
Gavin said: “I think the decision to discontinue this service is completely appalling. This is an extremely busy road and numerous children rely upon this assistance to cross safety.
“We cannot put a price on our children’s safety and I would strongly urge the Council to reconsider its decision and continue to staff the road during peak times.”
