Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has condemned London Midland for not considering to increase frequency of commuter trains through Bilbrook and Codsall.
The current frequency of trains running through the area at peak time is currently at one per hour which has caused frustration for those commuters that travel from Bilbrook and Codsall, aiming to get to Birmingham New Street.
The service currently begins just after 6am, with a long gaps between services at peak time for those aiming to reach Wolverhampton and Birmingham. There are similar problems with the return services with peak times in the evening having a similar lack of trains
Although there has been a 1.5% rise in passenger journeys over the past year on the Shrewsbury, Birmingham Line, the rise has been reflected across the entire rail network. Due to this fact, London Midland have no immediate prospect of increasing the number of trains that stop at Codsall or Bilbrook.
Gavin said: “I am disappointed that London Midland have no plans to increase the number of trains passing through Codsall and Bilbrook. South Staffordshire has become an increasingly desirable place for people who wish to commute to Birmingham and Wolverhampton to live. There are a considerable number of trains that pass through the stations but do not stop. I will continue pressing Ministers and London Midland to look into increasing the frequency of trains to accommodate more passengers.”
