Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended the first Codsall Christmas Fair last weekend.
For the first time, in addition to the traditional carol service event, Codsall residents were treated to a Christmas Fair with trade stalls, live music, hot food and a host of other events on Friday.
Visitors were treated to performances from the internationally-acclaimed juggler Steve Kaos, local band Sunhoney and soloist Sam Draisey.
Traditionally, the Christmas event attracts just over 300 people, however the new fair brought in over 1,500 revellers to the area. All funds raised from the evening’s collection went to the Tettenhall Rotary Club.
As well as the attractions on and around Station Road, there was the traditional ‘Carols around the Christmas Tree.’ Three local primary schools, St. Nicholas Church School, St. Christopher R.C. Church School and Birches First School, sang two songs during the course of the evening. In between the schools’ performances, the St. Nicholas Choir will be singing a series of carols.
After the event Gavin commented: “I would like to congratulate everybody involved in this absolutely spectacular event. I was amazed at the turnout to the Christmas Fair which was finished by the traditional carol service which was wonderful.
“It was clear that so much hard work and effort went into the event and I hope that this will be the first of many Christmas Fairs in the future.”
