Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, visited the Central Orchid Society at their 60th Anniversary show at Perton Civic Centre.
The show brought together Orchid growers from across the region to display many different species of the flower.
The society, formed in 1956, is one of the oldest Orchid Societies in the country. It was first known as the Midland Section of the Amateur Orchid Growers Society, which later became the Orchid Society of Great Britain.
The society meets on the last Saturday of most months at The Wrottesley Room in Perton Library, at 2.00 pm. The group has many connections with orchid societies up and down the country, who they visit to mount displays at many of their shows creating a strong network or orchid growers and friendships.
After the celebrations Gavin said: “The range of Orchids on display was fantastic, the growers must be so proud of their achievements. I had a thoroughly enjoyable time at the 60th anniversary Orchid Show, it was an honour to be invited to visit their incredible collection as I have always loved the flowers.
“It was wonderful to see the many Orchid growers from across South Staffordshire and indeed from across the West Midlands. It’s great to see the comradery between the different Orchid growers from across the regions and the shows and are a brilliant way of creating new friendships.”
