Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is campaigning to limit the speed at which trains will be able to travel through the villages of Great Wyrley and Cheslyn Hay.
In light of the upcoming electrification of the Chase Line, Gavin has written to the Secretary of State for Transport, The Rt Hon Patrick McLoughlin, requesting confirmation that trains travelling through these built up areas will not exceed a speed of 45mph.
He has also requested that environmental mitigation measures be put in place, in order to reduce the potential impact of the electrification on local residents in South Staffordshire.
On the issue, Gavin said: “While I believe the electrification of the Chase Line to be an extremely positive development for South Staffordshire, I feel that due care still needs to be taken to ensure the safety and wellbeing of nearby residents.
“For that reason, I will continue to urge the Secretary of State for Transport to confirm that measures are being taken to keep the trains travelling at acceptable speeds and to ensure that any environmental impact from the electrification scheme is kept to an absolute minimum.”
