Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has called for urgent talks with the director of the RAF Museum in Cosford to discuss the location for the Boulton Paul Heritage Collection, which is currently on display at RAF Cosford.
Gavin has previously successfully campaigned on behalf of the collection to encourage General Electric to provide money for the transport of the equipment to the RAF museum.
After the collection was forced to relocate from the original site in 2013, the RAF Museum offered an opportunity for The Boulton Paul Collection to be moved to RAF Cosford and preserve the entire collection, which included artefacts, photographs and historic documents. The RAF Museum in Cosford was also planning to devote a new section to the West Midlands contribution to the aviation industry and the Royal Air Force when space became available.
Gavin said: “I urge that the director of the museum to review this situation. I have campaigned for this before, encouraging General Electric to provide money for the future of the collection, and I am determined to fight for it once again.
“It’s disgraceful that this historical and unique collection is at risk at being spilt up or even scrapped. The collection itself has a valuable role in raising awareness of the area’s contribution to aviation history for future generations. A lot of work has been put into this collection over the years and it would be devastating if it was broken up.”
