Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has urged the Highways Agency to bring forward the resurfacing of the A449 in Coven as the noise is keeping residents awake at night.
A number of constituents have complained to Gavin about the noise created on the stretch of road on the A449 near the Coven Islands. Noise caused by trucks, trucks and heavy traffic between 1 and 4am has been keeping residents awake for the past 24 months.
Gavin called on the Chief Executive of the Highways Agency last December to improve the condition of the road, ensuring that residents that live close to the affected the short stretch of road are no longer disturbed. The work has now been postponed to November 2016.
Gavin has now urged the Minister with responsibilities for roads and highways, Andrew Jones MP, to see if he could intervene in the matter to bring the work forward to bring an end to the interference.
Gavin said: “A number of residents contacted me last regarding the road noise on the A449 in Coven last December and I am astonished that the date for resurfacing has been pushed back a year. I called on the Highways Agency and the Minister responsible to see if there is anything that they can do to improve the condition of the stretch of road which has been causing problems for the past two years and bring forward the date of resurfacing. I will continue to push for a resolution so that local residents will finally be able to sleep better at night.”
