Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is calling on Staffordshire County Council to provide free travel to those aged 16-18 that are still in full-time education.
Currently the Council offers a school travel pass for those under 16 who fulfil the requirements of being in full-time education and living beyond the walking distance from the school that they attend which is also their registered base, and within the designated Staffordshire catchment area or are attending the nearest suitable school which could be inside or outside of Staffordshire, as determined by Staffordshire County Council. Entitlement to free transport ends once compulsory education has ended.
Gavin has urged the County Council to review their travel policy for those aged over 16 and are still in full time education.
Commenting on this Gavin commented: “I think it is wrong that free travel for those still in full time education over the age of 16 is not provided to at least the age of 18. I hope that the County Council will seriously look at reviewing this decision and will provide a solution.”
