Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire is supporting local charity High Flyers in their pursuit of a permanent home. The charity, which provides meaningful day time activities for forty young adults with learning difficulties, is based in Pegasus House, Wombourne.
The group have a three year licence agreement for the property but, as their landlords, Sandwell charity Options for Life, wont inform them of their long term plans for the building, the group fear they may have to leave when this period is over. This uncertainty is causing considerable concern for the staff and members.
High Flyers director Sheila Baker said: “We are really grateful for the support we are receiving from Mr Williamson and from our local Councillors especially as, at this time, it would be so easy for them to focus on the national election rather than the needs of a community group.
High Flyers is community based so we would prefer to stay at our present location, and we have offered to buy the building at the end of our licence but, as our landlords will not let us know whether or not this is a possibility, we have to put alternative plans in place. Mr Williamson is supporting us in our endeavours.”
If the group have to leave their existing premises, they will need a large building in its own grounds to continue their work and would welcome information about any suitable properties.
Gavin said: “High Flyers has helped a huge number of people in Wombourne and the surrounding area, is a great group which plays a huge part in the community here in Wombourne. I will continue to support them in their challenge to secure a new premises for this wonderful group which supports so many residents with learning difficulties.”
