Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is backing an application for funding to carry out improvement works to the football pitch at the Pattingham Playing Fields.
Gavin has written a letter to Sport England in support of the application, made by Pattingham and Patshull Parish Council, for finance to assist with the drainage, excavation, filtering and relaying of the pitch.
The Pattingham Playing Fields is a site that is frequently used to hold community events. Most recently, a successful charity football match took place on the grounds, which attracted five hundred spectators.
However, persistent problems with drainage meant that many of the players described the surface as being one of the worst pitches that they had ever played on.
Gavin said: “I fully support this application for funding for the Pattingham Playing Fields. Investing in improvements to the football pitch in Pattingham will enable residents, both young and old, to become more involved in the sport and to enjoy all the associated benefits. Furthermore, it will provide a venue that the whole community can gather around at amateur sporting events.”
Sport England is responsible for grassroots sport in England. The organisation works with national and local partners, including national governing bodies of sport, local authorities, charities and other sporting organisations, to help people create a ‘sporting habit for life’.
