Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is backing a new scheme to remove the trees in front of the Bratch Pumping Station, in Wombourne.
The proposal, which was formed following a meeting between Gavin, the District Council and Severn Trent Water, would enable the Grade 2* Bratch Pumping Station to be viewed in its full glory.
It would also help protect the building by ensuring its visibility from the road and removing any cover for potential burglars or lead thieves.
Due to the Bratch Pumping Station’s listed status and location within the Staffordshire and Worcestershire canal conversation area, six weeks notification of intent to prune or remove trees is required and must be submitted to the Council.
Following Gavin’s intervention, Severn Trent Water will be speaking with the Council about the possibility of having the trees removed.
Gavin said: “This important listed building deserves to be seen in all its glory. Removing these trees will not only ensure that it is visible for everyone to enjoy but it will help preserve this important local landmark for future generations.”
The proposal would only relate to the removal of the Leylandii trees, which were planted in the 1970s. All historic trees on the site would continue to be protected.
