Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, attended the Codsall Community Arts Festival, over the weekend.
The Codsall Community Arts Festival is a biennial festival of music, drama and visual arts. This year’s Festival is being held between Saturday 8th March 2014 and Saturday 29th March 2014, and will cover almost three weeks of daily events.
Gavin went to the opening event, on Community Day, following which he was shown around each of the venues by a member of the organising committee.
Community Day is a new event for the Festival. It features a range of family events and workshops, with activities ranging from African drumming to drama, and poster painting for the kids.
Gavin is also set to attend a performance by the Reel Note Music Band, which will playing on the 28th of March. The English musicians - of Irish heritage – will be playing traditional melody instruments, backed by guitar, acoustic bass and bodhran. Jigs, reels, mazurkas, polkas and songs form part of the evening’s entertainment.
Other notable events over the three week period include ‘Personality Portraiture’ (20th March), at which local artist Keith Turley will discuss his life and work, an audience with children’s author Jeremy Strong (25th March), and a gathering with former Poet Laureate Andrew Motion, at which he will introduce his stunning new collection 'The Customs House' (26th March).
On the upcoming event, Gavin said: “I very much enjoyed being able to attend the Community Day, this weekend, and seeing all the incredible range of activities on offer.
“Events such as the Codsall Community Arts Festival play an extremely important role in the local community. They provide entertainment, an opportunity to socialise, a means to educate and inspire, and a source of funds to many local businesses.”
