Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is set to have a stall at the Kinver Country Fayre on Fathers Day, Sunday the 15th June.
The Fayre, a highlight of the village calendar and established for over 30 years, has grown in recent years to attract over 10,000 visitors. The event, which raises funds to help a series of local charities and good causes, donated £10,000 in grants, last year.
The theme of this year’s event is ‘Island Race.’ This will be reflected in traditional entertainment from around the British Isles – including Scottish dancing, English folk dance and Irish music with Dempsey’s Lot playing on the fields. The theme will carry into the children’s fancy dress competition, art show and into the beer tent, where ales from the isles will be on sale.
The headline arena attraction of the Fayre is The Vikings of Middle England, the leading UK re-enactment group. The Vikings will put on realistic and exciting battles to entertain the crowds, while their Viking village will incorporates craft displays, Icelandic horses and have-a-go archery.
The arena programme also features falconry displays, the Wye Valley Axemen, DRUAC dog agility and the Kinver Country Fayre fun dog show.
Gavin said: “I am very much looking forward to this year’s event. I hope people will drop by my stall, either to talk about any issues they might have or simply to have a chat.
“I am really going to enjoy visiting the Viking Village and seeing the battle re-enactments. I am also greatly anticipating being able to watch the broad range of traditional music and dancing that will be taking place throughout the day.”
Fayre organizer Jane Sadler said: “This year we’re welcoming a leading re-enactment group to Kinver, The Vikings of Middle England.
“With the current exhibition at the British Museum, Vikings are very much in the news and we can’t wait to see them do battle here in the village. We’re expecting some fearsome combat, with a whole range of activities in their camp, including crafts, cookery, metalwork and archery – plus some Icelandic horses”.
For the first time, this year, the event will receive support and sponsorship from Taste of Staffordshire. Celebrating its 13 year, Taste of Staffordshire is helping to raise the awareness and profile of Staffordshire’s culinary delights from local producers and farm shops to fine dining restaurants and food festivals throughout the county. In partnership with Taste of Staffordshire, it is intended that the Fayre provides an opportunity to showcase great local food and drink.
The Fayre will also feature anarray of children’s entertainment, shire horses, farm animals, steam engines, classic cars, and dozens of stalls and food outlets catering for all tastes.
