Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, has welcomed an announcement by Options for Life that it will continue to rent out Pegasus House to local charity High Flyers.
Gavin called on the organisation to reconsider a decision to terminate its existing lease agreement with High Flyers, later this year.
High Flyers is a local charity service providing day opportunities for adults with learning disabilities in the Wombourne area.
It has been renting space in Pegasus House from Options for Life, a regional charity providing a similar service, for the past couple of years.
Gavin was instrumental in obtaining the building for the charity’s use and, along with a series of local residents, helped the High Flyers carry out an extensive refurbishment of the premises.
Facilities now include an I.T suite, art room, multi purpose activity rooms, common room, brand new kitchen/diner and sensory room.
Earlier this year, Options for Life informed High Flyers that it planned to bring an end to the rental agreement and that the charity would need to vacate the premises by the end of October 2014.
Gavin, along with Councillor Mike Davies, urged the organisation to reconsider and enable High Flyer to continue operating from the site.
Options for Life has now agreed to reverse its decision and has confirmed that High Flyers’ headquarters can remain within the building.
Gavin said: “I am delighted that Options for Life has agreed to reverse its decision and that High Flyers will be able to continue using Pegasus House as its base of operations.
“High Flyers has helped a huge number of people in Wombourne and the surrounding area, and a large section of the community contributed towards setting up the new headquarters. It would have been a massive shame if High Flyers had been forced to leave the premises.”
