MP condemns rogue HGVs

Gavin Williamson, MP for South Staffordshire, is urging the police to take action on the continuing use of Heath House Lane by Heavy Goods Vehicles (HGVs).

Gavin has written to the police regarding the issue, after a number of residents contacted him with their concerns.

Despite a 7.5 ton weight limit existing on the road, there have been reports that HGVs are using it as a rat run, particularly in the early morning.

Residents have claimed heavy vehicles have been speeding down the lane, crashing over drain covers and mounting curbs, and pavements, in an attempt to pass one another.

Large double-decker buses have also been regularly traversing the route, causing further damage to the road surface, pavements and verges.

Gavin said: “This is not acceptable. Roads have weight limits and speed limits for a reason. It is not only the obvious damage to the road and verges that this usage causes, there are also important safety considerations that need to be addressed.

“I have written to the police to raise residents’ concerns and I hope they take immediate action to resolve this matter.”
